🔔 AI Stocks Close — Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 2:15 PM

Closes: SPX 7,718.94 (-1.11%) · Nasdaq Comp 26,692.87 (-1.88%) · DJI 51,621.48 (-0.09%)
Day narrative: A hot September CPI print — 3.7% headline, 2.6% core, both above consensus — flipped the rate debate from "cut" to "hike" and tech wore the damage. The Dow barely budged because money didn't leave the market, it just rotated hard into healthcare and staples while semis, AI infrastructure and high-multiple software got torched. Russell 2000 down about 2%, 8 of 11 sectors red.

Sectors: Best Health Care (+1.56%) · Worst Technology (-1.40%), with Utilities close behind at -1.29%

Movers:
• ORCL -8.83% — credit downgrade to BBB-, Project Jupiter power/pipeline delays, and higher rates hitting a company that raised ~$43B in debt this fiscal year
• SMCI -8.42% — AI-hardware beta getting hit from both ends: rate shock plus the memory cost squeeze
• ARM -6.81% — semis broadly derated; no company news needed when the whole complex is unwinding
• AMD -5.73% — gave back a chunk of its AI run as the SOX bled
• DELL -8.28% — Barclays cut Dell, HPE and NetApp to Equal Weight
• MU -4.08% — fourth straight down day on CXMT China DRAM competition fears and ITC patent complaints; Rosenblatt reaffirmed Buy and called the selloff overdone
• BAC -4.7% — $1.2B regulatory penalty swamped the quarter

After-hours / Earnings:
• Quiet tape after the bell — nothing material in the watchlist. NVDA +0.23% AH, SMCI +0.17%, NET +0.19%, AMD -0.44%, BBAI -1.38%. Everything else inside ±0.2%.
• ASML reported pre-market: record Q3 sales and gross margin, net profit €4.96B vs ~€4.1B consensus, guidance raised — and the stock still closed -3.78%. That's the day in one line.

Macro:
• September CPI: headline +0.6% m/m, 3.7% y/y (vs 3.6% expected); core 2.6% y/y, up from 2.4%. Gasoline and energy did the heavy lifting.
• 10-year yield spiked 10bp to 5.323% intraday before settling back near 5.19% as traders looked past CPI to Thursday's data.
• CME FedWatch: October hike odds doubled to 44% from 22%; December better than 50/50; >95% chance of at least one hike by year-end, with 40% odds of a full half-point.
• Dollar index pushed toward 103. Gold broke below $4,100. Brent held above $105 on Houthi activity.
• Apple tagged a $5 trillion market cap intraday again — the one green mega-cap on the board.
• AI-IPO watch: Anthropic held its pre-IPO investor day in San Francisco today and disclosed Q3 financials to institutions for the first time, with reported targets of $1.8–2.0 trillion ahead of a roadshow around the week of November 9. OpenAI's weaker-than-hoped cloud revenue figures were cited in Oracle's selloff, and Altman has ruled out an OpenAI IPO this year. Neither is publicly traded.

Tomorrow: Taiwan Semi reports before the open — consensus around $4.41–4.45 per ADR on roughly $45.4B revenue, with monthly sales already pointing to a record quarter. That print is the referee for this whole semi drawdown. Then an 8:30 ET data pileup: PPI (+0.5% headline, +0.3% core expected), retail sales (+0.3%), jobless claims (199K), and Philly Fed, all at once. Business inventories at 10:00. Also reporting: Schwab, PNC, U.S. Bancorp, Interactive Brokers. And Tesla unveils the Roadster at 7:55 p.m. CDT from the SpaceX facility in Waco.
